Fazlan Adhili, more commonly known among his peers as Faz, is a 23-year-old competitive cyclist here in Malaysia. An avid dabbler in Graphic Design, Photography and Videography – he survives through the freelance work he finds from these three schools of labor.
For Faz, it all started when he was a college student in the historic town of Malacca – living a mere 2km away from campus, he saw a need for transportation that didn’t require endless hours searching for a parking spot. That was when a friend introduced him to the world of fixed-gear bicycles, prompting him to buy a road-frame and slowly converting it by himself. It was a 500-ringgit start to something that he would be passionate about until today.
It was during that same period in college that Faz decided to buy a track bike and challenge himself through participating in a race organized by the Harufixed Crew in Malacca. He was ecstatic when he finished first and this eventually led him to start travelling alone with his bike. From Singapore to Indonesia, Faz made fast friends across the globe with other like-minded riders and was soon receiving sponsorships from as far as the United States, Korea and Singapore – all of which have played a part in his competitive resume, sending him for races in Bangkok, London, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Brisbane and Makassar, just to name a few.
With an impressive slew of wins in Malaysia and not to mention an impressive collection of bikes – a track bike, road bike, mountain bike and a single speed bike – Faz never limits himself to one specific type of riding, preferring to explore the world of bicycles sitting in different saddles and riding on different types of terrain has definitely given him an edge competitively.
When asked what he had planned for the future, all he had to say was “I’m not stopping here – there still are different styles of riding that I have yet to try and triumph over – and someday I will.”
